Macron urges for ‘boots on the ground’ in Ukraine
Macron suggested that allied countries willing to provide troops would be crucial for such operations. The idea, also supported by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has faced opposition from other European leaders, including Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, as well as Germany, Poland, Spain, Romania, and Croatia, who have ruled out participation.
Moscow has consistently rejected any Western troop presence in Ukraine, warning that it would constitute an occupation and could spark a global conflict. Russian officials, including National Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova have criticized Western efforts to push NATO involvement as dangerously escalating the situation.
